Cathedral of Cloth: Life and Times at Ebley Mill

Following on from our successful exhibition, the book Cathedral of Cloth: Life and Times of Ebley Mill is now available from the Museum in the Park, Stroud Bookshop and at the Mill openings.

In 2018 Ebley Mill celebrates the building of the Long Block at Ebley 200 years ago. Now it flourishes under the care of Stroud District Council but the story of the mill is much older and more varied. It reaches back to the early 1400s; it was owned by a fashionable man about town before Samuel Marling made it into the powerhouse of the Stroud Valleys. This exhibition, presented by Stroudwater Textile Trust in partnership with the Museum, looks at the stories of the famous and of working people and displays rarely seen items from a variety of sources. A ‘must see’ for anyone interested in our textile heritage and local history.

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Stroud Town Council.
