- Before
- Teachers are advised to make a pre-visit to the mills, discussing learning outcomes, risk assessments and the visit timetable. Contact Jane Ford.
- Booking
- A Booking Form can be downloaded or sent electronically. This will provide details for payment and a map of the sites.
- Costs
- For the 2 mills package we will charge £3.00 per child.(One mill £2) For accompanying adults there is no charge. Other activities have varying charges. We are a volunteer organisation and as a charity we welcome any voluntary contributions.
- Payment
- An invoice will be issued when the booking form is received. Payment can be by cheque or BACS. Details will be on the Booking Form.
- Numbers
- You can visit either mill separately or both on the same day. For mill visits the class will need to be divided, so that a maximum of 16 children can be accommodated at each site.
- Duration
- Please allow at least 1 hour at each mill.
- Supervision
- Ensure that there are sufficient adults to supervise children between sites,which does involve crossing roads. There will always be adequate supervision from our experienced volunteer guides within the sites.
- Clothing
- Wear warm clothing, Dunkirk can be chilly even in the summer and suitable footwear (trainers) for walking the cycle path.
Facilities
- Car parking
- At Dunkirk there is only Disabled Parking ( the rest being for residents only). At Gigg there is some parking available.
- Buses
- Contact Stagecoach for numbers and times.
- Coaches
- For Dunkirk, coaches should use the bus stops on the A46 just outside the Mill. At Gigg, coaches can pull off the road. Coaches may park at Nailswoth Bus Station.
- Toilets
- At Dunkirk there are 2 unisex toilets (one is suitable for disabled use). There are no toilets at Gigg.
- Lunch Break
- We can arrange somewhere nearby where packed lunches can be eaten.
- First Aid
- Each site carries a first aid box.
- Access
- Dunkirk is fully accessible from the road. There are steps down from the cycle path. Dunkirk and Gigg are approx.1.5 km apart. Gigg Mill is approached from a narrow footpath and the dye plant garden which has 2 railway sleeper steps.
- Risk Assessment
- We can provide a risk assessment if required or schools may prefer to do their own.
